WEEE Declaration The objectives of the EU’s environment policy are, in particular, to preserve, protect and improve the quality of the environment, to protect human health and to utilise natural resources prudently and rationally. The purpose of the EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is to contribute to sustainable production and consumption by, as a first priority, the prevention of WEEE and, in addition, by the re-use, recycling and other forms of recovery of waste. Nilfisk supports these objectives and as part of Nilfisk’s new Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy, 4 focus areas have been identified. One of these is “Consious towards climate and environment”, hereunder “Materials and Recycling”. The first WEEE Directive (WEEE 1; 2002/96/EC) entered into force in February 2003. August 13th 2012 it was replaced by the new WEEE Directive (WEEE 2; 2012/19/EU), which must be transposed into national law by February 2014. Among several others, WEEE 2 introduces three important changes: • “Open scope”, meaning that all EEE fall under the scope unless specifically exempted under article 3 • 6 categories instead for the former 10 categories • Demands on the product conception (interface to the Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC) The transition period for equipment newly falling under the scope of WEEE 2 is set to 14th August, 2018 (article 2(a)). Hence, from August 13th 2012 to August 14th 2018 the WEEE 1 scope as well as the former 10 categories are applicable. From August 15th 2018 the open scope and the 6 new categories apply. Nilfisk hereby certifies compliance with the requirments, including meeting above mentioned deadlines, under the WEEE Directive.
